The instinct with an AI tool is to feed it everything — twelve angles, in case one of them helps. It mostly doesn’t. What changes the quality of a draft is not how many photos you take but which ones.
Three photos carries most items
A typical listing draft resolves from three: the item front-on, a back or reverse angle, and one detail. That’s enough for the model to identify the category, read the silhouette, judge condition, and write a description that doesn’t hedge.
Going from three to eight helps in specific cases — a garment with unusual construction, a piece of electronics where the ports matter, anything where condition is the whole question. It does not help a plain t-shirt.
The label is worth more than three more angles
If the item has a size or care tag, photograph it. Straight on, filling the frame, in focus.
That single photo is doing something none of the others can: it turns brand, size, fabric composition and country of manufacture from guesses into facts. Those are item specifics, and item specifics are what marketplace search filters on. A buyer narrowing to “Medium” never sees a listing where size is blank — no matter how good the title is.
It is also the most tedious part of listing by hand, which makes it the part worth handing over.
Shoot at the scale you want to sell at
Don’t crop in on your phone before uploading. The pipeline squares the frame at the photo’s own scale and resizes to 1600px on the long edge — the dimensions eBay recommends for search and zoom. A photo you already cropped tight is a photo it has to work with as-is, and the result is softer than it needed to be.
Fill the frame when you shoot instead. Same effect, no lost resolution.
What the draft tells you it doesn’t know
Every draft comes back with a confidence score and an explicit list of what the photos could not settle. That list is the useful part — it is a short, specific answer to “what should I check before publishing this?”
If the same gap shows up across a batch, it’s usually a photo you’re not taking. Add it to your routine and the next batch comes back cleaner.
